The Leadership of a Bad Brother

The Leadership of a Bad Brother

Reflections on the leadership of someone have inspired these musings. As ordinary as they are, daily I can best describe him as a “Brother”. Put together as a diary, it is an attempt to make sense of the tyranny of an individual. With the assistance of a few cronies can exact on people of means, but no voice. It also attempts to present an eschatology of the end of tyranny, as I observe it. Each entry tells part of the story as appropriately as is possible.

The art of making powerful enemies depends on one’s willingness or compulsion [either] not to care or to care so much about what others do in your actions and reactions. When making enemies, make preparation. – 30/06/2016

When an once successful empleomaniac is, by law and propriety barred from / removed from public office, it’s risky. There is a monumental risk that he or she will revert to being a slug from a butterfly. i.e. become an undisciplined monomaniac for power. Such a person becomes a menacing danger to society because inflicting indiscriminate wickedness on others is the most convenient way to compensate for his inability to hold public office. – 01/07/2016.

Frustrated power occurs when its holder can no longer use it in any legitimate manner to achieve his or her preferred outcomes. This is the usual result of a sequence of malfeasance, misfeasance or nonfeasance. Frustrated power may also be because of serious miscalculations in the use or non-use of force; incompetence. If one observes vigorous displays of power that are senseless, wasteful or vainglorious by a holder. Then, it indicates frustrated power happening at the end of his or her tenure. “Displays of power” and the “exercise of power” are not the same thing. The former requires undiscriminating force or desperation, while the latter involves true or reasonable legitimacy. We must therefore not conflate “power” with the “illusions of power”. – 02/07/2016.

While the discourses, representations, and analyses of good and bad leadership is a complex routine and contentious matter, the arithmetic is quite simple. Theft by leaders is the regular mark of bad leadership, for stealing state resources with vested powers is easy, and the worst crop of helmsmen can do it very well. Conversely, good leaders as a rule either transform the realms they govern into better entities. Or maintain the level of excellence achieved by predecessors. Such is done making the right investments with the right vision, such is their mark. To steal or not to steal or to invest and not to invest becomes the yardstick by which we measure good and bad leadership. In summary, a bad leader increases himself by decreasing everyone else. Food leaders increase everyone else without reducing himself. Is this not simple? – 03/07/2016

In the immediate post-WWII era, politics evolved into the best example of what leadership should produce. That is, the freedoms and capabilities of the individual to express their best thoughts and efforts. It was a boon to the human spirit and the rights of the individual. Decadence has since supplanted such enabling conditions. The best product of leadership in our times are conditions that insult the human spirit and instruct the individual in what he or she cannot do. Leaders, once agents of free individual expression, have now become agents of stifling individual limitation. His or her leader forces the individual to live in a hole. Oppression, repression and the law (not justice) have thus become “legitimate” aspects of modern leadership, even in a democracy. Not to talk of the obscured autocracies that pretend to be democracies. – 04/07/2016

Time is the magic of leadership, and timeliness is the acumen of leading men and women. “If you do not know where you are going, I am not following you.” This is the best way electorates and followerships should hold leadership to account when considering the limitations of time. Leaders should know where they are going, where they are taking their supporters. And know the effects their actions will produce in the short, medium and long terms. When a leader needs time, a long time, to lead correctly and provide the right or expected results, he or she is unsure and incompetent; do you know of any exceptions?

We have produced great leadership from time to time in various places, but not with unsure or clueless leaders begging for time. Two years, four years, five years, seven years are all short times for weak leaders but enough or too much time for great ones. Leadership does not have extra time awarded in a democracy, and autocracies create false illusions of extra time. What do you think? – 06/07/2016

The most significant apparent comeuppance for leadership (with all its paraphernalia) is when it is held with success to ransom at a high cost to it by a supposed nobody. Or when he is overrun by a small/minor quantity or will becraped by a serious but underestimated interest. I knew such entities as “Boiss”. Hubris, arrogance, self-assurance, delusions of grandeur, forgetfulness, naivete, over-promotion, wickedness, truth-aversion are just some of the primary causes of the comeuppance that befall a lousy leader. Hindsight is of little value to leaders in these circumstances. And the revisions of lines of action in subsequent governance amplify the primary causes of the comeuppance in question. When we consider hindsight yet again.

Bad leadership always ends up being brought down by greater forces, but in several cases, the job is to the overlooked and underestimated but aggrieved, disappointed and disaffected Boiss. Let us say cheers to Boiss! – 06/07/2016.

Why is it that when guynes embarrass, defeat or overthrow ruthless leaders, their easy resort is to shedding tears? Oh, yes, they cry! They weep like babies who need to when the times oppose them with determination. Regardless of the rationalisations, it is hard to explain why leaders described as super-tough, no-nonsense, most brutal, unforgiving, iron-like, steel-like and stone-cold resort to shedding tears when is or appears to be over. Several are quite content to witness and remember the ignominious and pitiable spectacular of a self-ascribing superhuman cry with profusion when craped . Well, while emitting body signals that solicit exceeding sympathy and forgiveness, things they could never give others the times was theirs. Such ignominy, however, does not suffice for the punishment they deserve. Well, the tears are only the start point of the retribution. Cry more! Cry! – 06/07/2016.
