Over forty years a ago, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti sang the song Power Show in 1981 to critique the inequalities in Nigeria between those who have and those that don’t. The predictable outcome of this inequality is the act of power show. He did not add inequality is relative because he did not need to. Fela simplified his music and lyrics so every person despite their age, gender, religion, politics, education or social status could feel and get him.
Why #FelaForDele? Dele can take care of himself but we all need support.
Fela, himself a major victim of countless heinous injustices understood in advance what Dele Farotimi is facing in 2024 at the hands of some member of legal power elite in his country. Visionaries are born not bought in the market place. Many have suffered similar fates at the hands of Nigerian power elites. Politicians eliminate politicians as soldiers eliminated soldier for power’s sake and power show. Now, lawyers eliminating is a deepening of the practice. Do!
Like Fela, Dele’s offence is telling verifiable truths in his book Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System about rot in the Nigerian legal system and how to correct it.
