Yankius: AHOY versus Pyrates?
Rumour: Yankigbetolentus, Na question carry me come.
Yankius: And you no bring drink?
Rumour: Is a carton of Gulder enough?
Yankius: Fire ahead.
Rumour: I been think say AHOY and Pyrates Confraternity na the same thing.
Yankius: They are.
Rumour: Really? How the NAS Cap’n come do press release say AHOY na impostors.
Yankius: He is lying.
Rumour: Are you serious? Is part of the Pyrates Creed not Truth Before Cant.
Yankius: Don’t be so naïve. Any one can say anything and forever do the opposite in practice.
Rumour: I’m learning.
Yankius: AHOY members were purposefully selected, groomed and initiated by Pyrates as Pyrates. The Pyrates responsible collected initiation and regalia fees from them on behalf of the Pyrates Confraternity. Then charged them monthly membership dues. Then abandoned them when the event became a controversy at the highest echelon.
Rumour: Why the controversy?
Yankius: Wole Soyinka banned initiations on campuses in 1984 but some continued doing it and he did not like it.
Rumour: Did AHOY members receive any refunds for moneys they spent or were they told their initiation was controversial?
Yankius: Never. Older Pyrates continued to support and even invite them to Annual Converges as Pyrates. AHOY members were originally intended to be the new breeds of the Confraternity.
Rumour: You kidding me.
Yankius: I kid you not.
Rumour: So, you are saying that the AHOY members were in suspended animation.
Yankius: Limbo, yes.
Rumour: Can I infer that AHOY were tired of being second class members of the Pyrates Confraternity?
Yankius: Onekindishly! AHOY are Pyrate initiates that learned it is better to have their own identity. Meanwhile, hundreds of AHOY members joined the Pyrates Confraternity through re-initiation or regularisation. And some AHOY members now control the Pyrates Confraternity as top rankers.
Rumour: So, what was the media circus all about?
Yankius: The Pyrates Confraternity leadership did not know how to handle the legal registration of AHOY as an offshoot of their very own complicity. That’s why they shifted the responsibility to public relations and the media.
Rumour: You have not said anything that convinces me that AHOY are Pyrates.
Yankius: I don’t need to. AHOY can legitimately claim the Original Seven as their patrons just as Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, and others can legitimately claim Jesus, Peter, Paul and Silas as their patrons even though being separate from the Catholic Church. Pyrates are Pyrates and Christians are Christians.
Rumour: That’s true. Hmm! Collect money, initiate, abandon and defame. That is so cynical. We are talking of hard and bad guys anyway so no real surprise there.
Yankius: You get sense, my Brother.
Rumour: Yanks you hear say Dorcas dey do her fiftieth birthday?
Yankius: She no tell me o. Why you dey tell me now?
Rumour: No be you dey like Tsunami?
Yankius: O boy, make we go drink Gulder for Mama Kelechi kiosk. When I do my fiftieth, she come?
All Guys Dey
